Marvel Age celebrates all things Spider-Man in issue #114, as 1992 was the 30th anniversary of everyone's favorite web-slinger! From the cover by Mark Bagley and John Romita, it's wall-to-wall Spidey, with articles quoting creators current and past, Hembeck's page, how a hologram is made, the making of the Spidey 30 logo, and lots more.

The issue also features more "incidental art" that I've enjoyed running on this blog. I've scanned a bunch of those pieces and posted them below.

I'd also like to point out that under the new editor, Steve Saffel, the masthead has been expanded a bit - mostly in that it now breaks down what roles individual members of the production team play, e.g. "color corrections," "cover colorist," mechanical artists," etc.

It's the first issue for new Marvel Age editor Steve Saffel (an old pal of mine), and things are already changing. Hembeck's Page in Marvel Age has become literally that – a single page, rather than the regular two-page spread it had been before. There's less fun, personal stuff in the issue, like Marie Javins' many cow sketches, although maybe they'll be back again soon?

On the other hand, the production values have increased, with better paper and printing that allow a photo like that guy dressed as Wolverine below look pretty crisp.

The Marvel Age calendar is back, too, but without the jokiness that made it memorable in the past. Well, we will see where we go from here... For now, it's time for Captain America to battle the Punisher!
