In 1992, Marvel was in the midst of a Hulk renaissance, courtesy of writer Peter David and a multitude of artists, including Marvel Age #118 cover artist George Pérez, who teamed up with David for the "Future Imperfect" epic.

Also in this issue, writer/artist Alan Davis talks about his work on Excalibur, and painted art is spotlighted in articles on Dinosaurs: A Celebration and the Marvel Masterpieces trading card set. Plus, Mark Gruenwald critiques a script by writer Jean-Jacques Dzialowski from Paris, France.

Marvel's 2099 universe gets its launch in Marvel Age #117, starting with a cover by Paul Ryan. The big overview article reveals the four launch titles with quotes from editor Joey Cavalieri, my old coworker from DC Comics.

Also in this issue, there's an up close look at the Marvel Masterpieces trading card set with art by Joe Jusko. Plus a bunch of Marvel titles tie into a story that include calls for donations to UNICEF.

And Marvel introduces another batch of characters with the supernatural series Nightstalkers.

Calendar for September 1992

Thursday, March 13, 2025

Well, you can't go wrong with X-Men in the 1990s - and in this issue of Marvel Age, readers got to know what was coming in the "X-Cutioner's Song" event.

There's lots more going on at Marvel, of course. The Airtight Garage universe, created by Moebius, gets extended with the new miniseries The Onyx Overlord, which carried over characters from the original Airtight Garage epic into new tales written by Randy and Jean-Marc Lofficier with art by Jerry Bingham.

Marvel Age also seems to have settled into a rotating series of articles that look at the creative processes behind action figures, animated series, trading cards, and holograms. In this issue, the spotlight shines on action figures. But in this issue, you also get an article on the X-Men's animated series.

Plus, Tom DeFalco gets his own column about comics. Hey, who's gonna say no to the editor-in-chief?

Marvel Calendar - August 1992

Marvel shines a light on the Midnight Sons event with a weird cover that combines photography and illustration and features three former Marvel staffers: Dan Chichester, Len Kaminsky, and Howard Mackie.

Also, the delightful Rick Parker (writer/illustrator of the recent graphic novel "Drafted" - recommended reading!) makes his Marvel Age debut with "The Bossmen."

This issue features a few additional items of note: On the one hand, it has the first new Marvel Age logo since the series began. On the other hand, there is no contribution by Fred Hembeck, no Stan's Soapbox, and no Willie Lumpkin. Sad.
