He-Man and his pals, the Masters of the Universe, joined Marvel's Star Comics lineup in a new series by writer Mike Carlin and artist Ron Wilson. He-Man had already starred in comics from DC, and would go on to a 13-issue run in the Star line; eventually, Prince Adam would return to DC for more of his muscular adventures.

Peter Sanderson spent July 14, 1985, at the Museum of Cartoon Art in Rye Brook, New York, for a special "Marvel Day" event, with comics art on display by many of Marvel's greatest, as well as examples of Marvel merchandise and more. Marvel Age carried Peter's article, which featured these illustrations by Kyle Baker. The museum was in a building that looked like a tiny castle; I was there that day, and on other occasions as well. (One of my recollections of that day was Carol Kalish warning me not to eat sushi at outdoor events in the summer.)

Fans got a primer on Doctor Who in this issue, courtesy of an article by Ken Hart that laid down the basics of who exactly this doctor is, and why he's a big deal in the U.K. Sadly, the Doctor Who reprint series would only run another couple of months -- but this article was made all the more cool thanks to these fab cover sketches by Who artist Dave Gibbons.

The long-absent New Talent Department made a comeback this issue by shining a spotlight on penciller Tom Lyle. Tom would go on to draw comics for DC including Robin and Starman, Airboy for Eclipse, Spider-Man and Venom for Marvel, and much more.

Readers got to know new Art/Production Coordinator Anita Duncan in Newswatch, including this caricature by Paul Becton and Jack Abel. Jack also got the official title of Proofreader for Marvel Age starting this month.
